When things go wrong with the body the negative effects are mental as well as physical. Having an injury can all too often bring with it the fear of re-injury, anxiety about return to sport or work and frustration at our bodies’ frailties.
At Wholelife physio we are aware of this and from years of experience we can provide you with a careful explanation of your problem and education about how it is best managed. Through this dialogue we can give you the confidence to get back to what you were doing before, helping you feel whole once again.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used in China for at least the last 3,000 years. Its usage by physiotherapists in the West has increased greatly as research has shown that, through
stimulation of the brain, a body treated with acupuncture produces natural pain-relieving chemicals, such as endorphins, which help the body heal itself and manage pain.
Physiotherapists in our clinic use such treatment for pain relief e.g. tension headaches, back, neck and other joint pain, along with arthritis and rheumatism.
All physiotherapists using acupuncture are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.
Biomechanical analysis
This process includes observing and analysing the way in which your body works as a chain of joints whilst you are moving; from looking at a walk to getting you on the treadmill.
Ergonomic Assessments / advice
This includes advice on work station set-up and positioning to reduce the stress placed on the body by repetitive movements.
Exercise prescriptions
We provide tailored exercise programmes to address your specific problem set while maintaining the benefits of other treatments. This includes exercises to correct any muscular imbalance, strengthen core stability, and stretch tight muscles that may be part of your problem.
Joint manipulation and mobilisation
Sometimes stiff joints can be the source of pain. Joint manipulation and mobilisations are two different techniques used to help loosen stiff joints and ease painful ones.
Pacing
Sometimes when you’ve had pain for a long time you may need help in learning how to manage it. Our physiotherapists can help you develop the skills needed to really understand your pain and make the most out of your life.
Preventative Advice, Postural advice and education
Prevention is always better than treatment; therefore we provide a postural re-education and stretching programme to help reduce the risk of potential injuries.
Soft tissue techniques
Tight or overactive muscles can often cause pain. We use a number of techniques to correct this problem, including massage, deep tissue release and trigger point work to correct and relax tight points in the muscle.
Sports specific rehabilitation
Our physiotherapists have themselves all come from high level national and international sporting backgrounds and therefore know how to get you back to your best, whatever the sport. This includes fitness, conditioning and plyometrics, and is used for conditions from surgical repairs to sprained ankles.
Taping and strapping techniques
These are sometimes used to give your body an opportunity to heal, or to provide it with sensory information to improve your movement.
